Primary Infertility Treatment Cost Comparison

Post by uday patel

Infertility affects more than 10 percent of couples all over the World. AROUND 60 million couples are facing some or other fertility issues and are not able to conceive. Of the 60 million couples, 15 million are in India which leads to a whopping 25 percent.

In China, the removal of the one-child norm has led to a surge in demand for ART. The number of infertility cases is reported to be more than 15 million; the prevalence ratio is one among four married couples.

In Africa, the average stands at 10.1 percent, but in some countries, the inability to reproduce may be faced by 32 percent of couples.

Fortunately, India ranks among the countries that provide top rated infertility treatments and that too at affordable costs. Quality infrastructure is another advantage that favors us. Many clinics situated across the country, especially in the major towns, are adequately equipped and operated by fertility experts to deliver the proper treatment successfully.

The cost of fertility procedures in the country is phenomenally less as compared with the Western counterparts. The cost factor benefits accrue from inherent advantages that a developing economy offers. But in the case of India, low-cost treatment is not at the cost of quality as the medical outcomes prove consistently.

Lower wage certainly plays a significant role in the package pricing. But other relevant factors keep the pricing of procedures much lower than those available in the developed economies across the EU and the USA. Of course, some countries in South East Asia and the APAC region are emerging as strong competitors, but the price difference and successful outcomes are much in our favor.

Fertility treatments comprise many procedures used to treat an equally large number of disorders that afflict human reproductive organs and the endocrine system. Though most procedures require a varying degree of invasion, some can be treated by making lifestyle changes and balancing hormone secretion. Some problems in the reproductive system are also responsible:

• A fertilized embryo does not survive after attaching to the lining of the uterus.
• The fertilized egg fails to attach to the lining of the womb.
• The movement of the eggs’ ovaries to the womb does not take place.
• Unproductive ovaries.
• Primary Infertility Causes

Primary infertility takes place when a couple has regular intercourse without a contraceptive for at least one year. The incidence is very high and is responsible for more than eighty percent of cases of failure to conceive. The reasons behind primary infertility are many that are listed below.

• Major Disease in Reproductive System
• Autoimmune Disorder
• Polyps in Uterus
• Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
• Infection in Reproductive Organs
• Hydrosalpinx
• PID of Pelvic Inflammation
• Failure in Sperm Production in Men
• Low-Quality Immobile Sperms
• Retrograde Ejaculation

Many more associated factors prevent conception even after a year of intercourse. The only recourse is to consult a specialist and get treated for the anomaly in the system. There are several IVF Clinics in India that provide procedures. The charges of clinics are standardized all over the countries, but some may charge higher for using more advanced techniques or for the amenities provided. Generally, the cost would be higher in larger towns than mid-sized towns though the standards remain.

In Vitro Fertilization

This is when the gametes are fertilized outside the fallopian tubes, usually in a petri dish or test tube. This is also known as a test-tube baby procedure. The cost of treatment per cycle differs globally in China; one cycle may cost as much as 30,000 RMB, which is Rs.344,000 in Indian Rupees. In our country, cost per cycle ranges from well over 100,000 to 2.50000 Rs. The same procedure in Africa may cost Rs.300000 and above.

ICSI or Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection

This technique involves directly injecting the sperm into the harvested oocyte. ICSI is required when the sperm counts are low and are sufficiently immobile.

The estimated cost of ICSI per procedure in China is 35000 RMB or 400000 INR for a standard technique. In comparison, the same technology in our country costs around 210000 INR for a standard technique. In Africa, low dose ICSI technology may cost around R 75000, equal to INR 375000. However, Africans prefer infertility treatments in Indian Clinics not only due to the cost factor the service quality and medical outcomes are better here.

The scope of fertility treatments is vast and is increasing day by day. As technology advances, newer methodologies will emerge. Constant training and investment in the latest equipment and tools must keep with global competition in medical tourism. India attracts many overseas visitors for Infertility treatments because of low cost and excellence in service and medical outcomes.
